Conestoga Crossing Month 9: Independence Square Block

blocks to make: 1 (plus 2 baskets)
number of pieces: 68 (plus 58)
Waste HST's to collect: 12 (plus 10)

I have to admit,

I didn't know that I liked pinwheels so much.  They really are growing on me quite a bit throughout this project.  It's really cool that you can take such a simple block and build on it to create a stunning, layered, dimensional block!
I love quilt blocks, you can just keep building and building and......
you get the idea.

This block is not too bad, by this point, you guys are all pro's so this guy is easy peasy!

Make your Half Square Triangles, Pinwheel Unit, and Flying Geese Units as shown in the directions.
The only tricky units are these guys shown:

Really they are not too tricky, 1/4 square triangles with a half square... More like a glorified little half square triangle.... Anyway, watch the stretch on these though.  You are working with bias.
And be sure to get your colors in the right place!

Next assemble your block sections.
BE SURE you are turning your pieces the right way as you go along!

Watch your center seam on this guy....
Is it perfect? nope.
Am I going to fret over it?? nope

When you step back and look, they are the same color and you never even notice that the seams don't line up just so!

So here's your sections.

Press your corner sections down (opposite of what the pattern says) to make the final block assemble more smooth.... literally... see what I did there?!

Assemble these:

 voila!

Well done everyone, we are 3/4 of the way there!!

oh yeah....make these guys

total pieces sewn this month: 126
total pieces in the quilt so far: 1,044
total waste HST's: 150

Something extra:

Check out these really awesome, super cute stockings made by Mom!

Now these have an official pattern in THIS BOOK HERE
but I couldn't help but notice the common theme... They are using up small pieces from past projects!!
EEeeee!!!

I'll bet.... (who knows what's coming here?? ) one could even use their waste triangles!

just a thought... Have a great month everyone!
